IND vs PAK: Did Team India knock out Pakistan from Champions Trophy 2025? Qualification scenarios explained
Pakistan, the defending champions and hosts of the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament, find themselves in a dire situation, having lost both of their Group A matches so far ! by 60 runs to New Zealand and by 6 wickets to India.

The game between India and Pakistan placed the two teams at opposite ends of the Group A points table. While India needed a win to strengthen their chances of securing a semi-final spot in the Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan, on the other hand, needed a victory just to stay alive in the competition. With each team in the group playing only three matches, winning all three ! or at least two ! usually guarantees a spot in the Top 4.
However, Pakistan, the defending champions and hosts of the tournament, have found themselves in a dire situation, having lost both of their Group A matches so far. Their campaign started with a 60-run defeat against New Zealand in Karachi, and their struggles continued on Sunday in Dubai, where they suffered another loss to arch-rivals India. As a result, their Net Run Rate (NRR) has taken a significant hit, and they remain at zero points with just one match left ! against Bangladesh.

Is Pakistan knock out of CT 2025?
Although it may seem like the host of the tournament are out of the competition, they are still technically in the running to defend their title. However, their fate now hinges not only on their own performance, but also on the results of India and Bangladesh. So, how can Pakistan still secure a spot in the semifinals despite back-to-back losses to New Zealand and India? here's the qualification scenarios.
Position | Teams | Played | Won | Lost | NRR | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | India | 2 | 2 | 0 | +0.647 | 4 |
2 | New Zealand | 1 | 1 | 0 | +1.200 | 2 |
3 | Bangladesh | 1 | 0 | 1 | -0.408 | 0 |
4 | Pakistan | 2 | 0 | 2 | -1.087 | 0 |
Dependent on India and Bangladesh
For Pakistan to qualify for the semifinals, they will need both Bangladesh and India to defeat the Kiwis in their upcoming matches ! and by significant margins. If the BlackCaps lose both games, they would be left with two points from three matches, weakening their NRR. Pakistan must then secure a resounding victory against Bangladesh, keeping the Bangla Tigers at two points as well. This would create a three-way tie, with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand all sitting at two points each.
If everything goes according to what Pakistan hopes for, the final semi-final spot will be decided by NRR. The team with the highest NRR among the three will join India as the second semi-finalist from Group A in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
What happens if either Bangladesh or India lose to New Zealand?
If Mitchell Santner's side secures a win in either of their two remaining matches, regardless of the margin, Pakistan's journey in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will come to an end. New Zealand is set to face Bangladesh on Monday (February 24) in Rawalpindi.
If the Kiwis win this match, Pakistan will be the 1st team to be eliminated from the semi-final race even before playing their final group stage game against Bangladesh.
