How Is Matthew Hayden Spending His Spare Time During IPL? Going Shopping Undercover In Chennai Wearing A Lungi!
He even did a good job bargaining.
Shane Warne and Matthew Hayden have been dressing-room mates for a long time and when the former challenged the latter, there was no holding back. Hayden had to find a make-up man for a disguise to explore the streets of his ¡°second home¡± Chennai.
¡°It was a challenge by Warne to buy items for under Rs 1000. That¡¯s why I went around the market to buy some lungis, shirts, Rajini sunnies and a watch,¡± Hayden later told TOI.
The Aussie was in the city to do commentary for Chennai Super Kings¡¯ Indian Premier League game against Rajasthan Royals when he decided to take up the challenge.
So he found a local boy who could help him navigate the streets of Chennai, a city with which he has a deep connect.
¡°I paid the boy Rs 100. And I can proudly tell you that I won the challenge (with Warne),¡± Hayden said.
Hayden said that it was a fascinating experience, even though he came close to getting recognized. ¡°T Nagar is one of the oldest markets. And the disguise worked OK, even though it wasn¡¯t fool-proof. Could probably have lost my hat,¡± Hayden informed.
In addition to exploring the streets, the former star didn¡¯t miss out on his favourite pastime when in Chennai ¡ª surfing. ¡°It was brilliant. Went down surfing in Covelong Point with my friend Murthy, who has founded a surf school,¡± Hayden added.
The opener loves everything about Chennai, calling the fans here ¡°No. 1 fans of the game¡±. ¡°It¡¯s a passion that is second to none,¡± Hayden said, hoping to see Chennai Super Kings go on and win the title.
