IPL 2021 Resumes In UAE After COVID-induced Break: Here's All You Need To Know
The 14th season of the IPL, which was postponed in May this year in the wake of the pandemic, will resume on 19 September in Dubai with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is set to resume with the five-time champions and current title holders Mumbai Indians taking on three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Highlight of this match is that fans will be welcomed back into the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to COVID-related lockdowns.
Here's all you need to know about the remainder of the cash-rich league.
Venues
Matches will be played at Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi with limited seating available keeping in mind the Covid protocols and UAE government regulations.
Schedule
A total number of 31 matches will be played in the duration of 27 days.
The 14th season, which was postponed in May this year in wake of the COVID pandemic, will resume on Sunday in Dubai with a marquee clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), a statement on the official IPL website said.
The action will then shift to Abu Dhabi where the Kolkata Knight Riders will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sharjah will host its first game on 24 September when Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Chennai Super Kings.
In all, 13 matches will be held in Dubai, 10 in Sharjah and 8 in Abu Dhabi.
Qualifiers, Eliminator and Final matches
The 1st Qualifier will be played in Dubai on 10 October. The Eliminator & Qualifier 2 will be played in Sharjah on 11 & 13 October respectively with Dubai hosting the Final of IPL 2021 on 15 October this year.
Standings
Delhi Capitals are top of the table with 12 points after having played 8 matches (Won 6, Lost 2).
CSK are second (10 points, Won 5, Lost 2), Royal Challengers Bangalore (10 points, Won 5, Lost 2) are third while Mumbai Indians occupy the fourth spot (8 points, Won 4, Lost 3).
Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad occupy the final four spots in the same order as mentioned.
Most Runs
Shikhar Dhawan (Delhi Capitals) leads the chart with 380 runs averaging 54.29.
Most wickets
Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore) has 17 wickets to his name averaging 15.12.
