Is Rey Fenix close to being released by AEW? Fans speculate an imminent WWE debut after latest update
While Rey Fenix's name and picture are still listed under the AEW roster, the link to his merchandise throws up a "404 Error" page.Fenix has been absent from AEW programming since July 2024, with no clarity on his return.
One-half of the Lucha Brothers, Penta, made his much-anticipated WWE debut on Raw this week. After Penta, fans are now looking forward to seeing his younger brother Rey Fenix in the WWE ring.
Rey Fenix is still under contract with AEW, and there is still no clarity on when he will be released. However, a seemingly small gesture by AEW has led to fans speculating that Fenix is close to being released.
Rey Fenix goes missing from AEW Shop
According to reports, merchandise of Rey Fenix has gone missing from All Elite Wrestling's website.
While Fenix's name and picture are still listed under the AEW roster, the link to his merchandise throws up a "404 Error" page, with no merchandise being shown for purchase. Furthermore, a search for "Rey Fenix" on the shop site yielded no results.
What happened with Rey Fenix
Fenix has been absent from AEW programming since July 2024, with his last appearance being a CMLL event on July 26.
He was sidelined due to an injury, and in December, Fenix claimed that someone within AEW "ignored" him for months when he previously needed a doctor. He also accused AEW of "inhuman treatment," without providing details.
When will Rey Fenix be released
Complicating Fenix's release from AEW is the injury time added to his contract, which many speculate will delay his departure by several months.
"If Penta's contract ended at the end of the year, which it roughly did, then Fenix, you'd have to look up how much time he was off because that's the amount of time they can extend him is the injury time that he was off. So whatever that is, 10 months or whatever, that can be when he can go. I mean it's possible Tony [Khan] could just say 'go,' but I don't expect it. I don't expect it, not in this wrestling war, not when they just did that thing for July 12... I do not expect any favours from AEW to WWE this week, put it that way," Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
