Ishant Sharma Becomes The First Indian To Take A Wicket With The Pink Ball And What A Moment It Is!
He removed Imrul Kayes on Day 1 of the 2nd Test in Kolkata.
When India and Bangladesh took the field for the historic Day-Night Test played with a pink ball, many firsts were going to happen and it was a known fact. For India, the question was, who would get the first wicket with the pink ball? Well, we finally have a winner, it is none other than Ishant Sharma! That's right, the lanky pace veteran of over a decade took the wicket of Imrul Kayes in the 7th over of the innings to create history.

Bangladesh opted to bat and their openers negotiated the opening half hour pretty well. Only a couple of balls before getting out, Kayes had a lifeline handed to him when he was given caught behind but the review showed he had not touched the ball. The decision was reversed. But the second time he was hit on the pads and the finger went up. Kayes opted for the review again but this time fate was against him and he had to go.

Ishant finds himself in the history books as far as Indian cricket is concerned. Perhaps it is fitting that after so many years of dedication he should be the one to achieve it. India are looking for their 12th straight series win at home and with a 1-0 lead, they have one foot across the line. This will also be their 28th home win in 34 games over the course of those 12 series wins. Also we have won our last 6 Tests on the trot be it home or away and victory here will make it a straight 7. Of course that's all too early to determine now, but Ishant drew first blood and in doing so achieved a first in many ways. It was India's first Pink Ball wicket, he became the first Indian to do so and it was the first wicket to fall in a Pink Ball Test in India.
Ishant has been our pace spearhead for a long time and now the pressure is less for him with guys like Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami in the wings, but it also means he has to fight to keep his place.

But he has always delivered when needed and this wicket was once again proof. The fact that it took him to the history books is just an added bonus in the mix. Ishant is our go-to man for an important wicket and he hit the jackpot early.
