Manchester City squandered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw against Brentford, with Pep Guardiola visibly angry at keeper Stefan Ortega post-match. City missed a chance to narrow the Premier League gap, as rivals Liverpool also stumbled.
Playing their Premier League 2024-25 clash Manchester City squandered a two-goal lead against Brentford on Tuesday, conceding two late goals to settle for a 2-2 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium. The frustration reached a point where manager Pep Guardiola, was seen getting angry at goalkeeper Stefan Ortega following the final whistle, blaming him for failing to preserve the lead.
The reigning Premier League champions allowed their opponents to stage a dramatic comeback despite being firmly in control which surely has not sat well with the manager of Man City.

Phil Foden ignited Manchester City's attack in the second half, scoring two goals in the span of 12 minutes. However, it was not late that Brentford made a comeback as Yoane Wissa narrowed the gap in the 82nd minute and later, Christian Norgaard secured the equalizer.

Guardiola visibly angry
The manager was seen animatedly yelling at Ortega after the match, venting his frustration over the missed opportunity. he later said, "We're a bit disappointed. At 2-0 up, we didn¡¯t manage to hold on to the lead, and unfortunately, we couldn¡¯t close the game," according to TNT Sports. "Today, we didn¡¯t take the right decisions in the final third. I felt that we didn¡¯t do enough to finish the game off."

However, post the screaming video went viral, there were also photos of the two hugging it out and walking away.
Opportunity missed
Seemingly, Manchester City's failure to secure three points cost them an opportunity to narrow the gap at the top of the Premier League table. However, their rivals Liverpool also stumbled, settling for a 1-1 draw against Nottingham later in the day.
As the season unfolds, questions remain about whether City can rediscover their clinical edge and return to peak form. They will next face Ipswich Town F.C. on January 19, 2025.
