Margaret Court is one of the greatest ever tennis players. With 24 Grand Slam wins to her name, she was a serial winner throughout her playing career. Yet, the Australian has never stayed off controversy.
Court is at it again after condemning transgender athletes, while claiming the devil controlled the media and government, in fiery comments just weeks before she is honoured at the Australian Open.
The 77 year-old, now a church pastor, had also drawn a controversy in 2017 for saying she would avoid Qantas over the airline's support for same-sex marriage, which is now law in Australia following a referendum.
She later claimed, in comments that were widely derided, that tennis was "full of lesbians" and that transgender children were the result of a Nazi-style "plot" to brainwash the minds of young people.
The 77-year-old doubled down on her controversial views regarding sexuality during a sermon at her Perth church at the weekend, which came to light on Monday.
"Children are making the decision at seven or eight years of age to change their sex ... no, just read the first two chapters of Genesis, that's all I say. Male and female," Court said in a video of the sermon.
"It's so wrong at that age because a lot of things are planted in this thought realm at that age, and they start to question 'what am I'.
"And you know with that LGBT, they'll wish they never put the T on the end of it because, particularly in women's sports, they're going to have so many problems.
"You have got young people taking hormones and having changes, by the time they are 17 they are thinking, 'Now I'm a boy and really I was a girl'.
Her comment soon faced the wrath of the Netizens as they blasted her for being a bigot.
Margaret Court can get in the bin. Again. ?

As with Israel Folau¡¯s comments, the most important thing to say is to reiterate loudly and clearly: Margaret Court is wrong. Being gay is no choice. Trans people are real. The Devil is fiction. LGBTIQ people: You are loved. You belong. #auspol https://t.co/4cHmSXpfQI

Says the woman who started her own "church" and trades off her fame for being good at hitting a ball.https://t.co/pQrG0kRDD1
The ONLY reason Margaret Court demanded her sporting achievements be commemorated was so she could use the world stage to create a furore by being a bigot.

Much the same as Folau - this is a set up that @TennisAustralia fell for.

Anyone going to #AustralianOpen next month, could you be kind enough to take a rainbow flag???? with you for the Margaret Court 'recognition' part of the proceedings?

It'll be a nice show of solidarity for the LGBTIQ community & it will overwhelm Court's nastiness.

The people are understandably livid, and why wouldn't they. It is not what you expect from a sports icon.
