The 18 year-old Deepak had recently clinched the junior world title when he took the gold in the 86 kg category at the Junior World Wrestling Championships in Talinn, Estonia. In doing so, he also become the first Indian in 18 years to achieve the feat.

He has not been rewarded yet, leaving senior wrestler Bajrang Punia to question the state government and slam them for not being proactive enough to announce a reward for the promising wrestler.
His tweet read, "Senior wrestlers' prize money has already been deducted. Now how long will a junior wrestler have to wait to get some encouragement from the government? Does a junior wrestler wait to turn into a senior before getting rewarded by the government."

It should be noted that Deepak Punia will get Rs 6 lakh 65 thousand for his junior Worlds gold under the revised Haryana Sports Policy which came into effect in September last year.
For achievements like Deepak Punia's and to give confidence to the younger generation of up and coming sports stars, monetary encouragement should be provided to acknowledge the efforts of our sports persons.
Let's hope Deepak Punia gets his due, and he continues to shine.
