Grand Theft Auto house Take-Two announced Thursday the formation of Private Division, a new publishing label dedicated to bringing independently-developed games to market.
The formation of the label comes as the game industry becomes increasingly fragmented, with many smaller, independent studios in need of outside publishing support.
Take-Two already has an initial lineup of Private Division games, all of which are made by teams of veteran game devs, many from the triple-A game industry. From a press release:
The games under the label are currently a ways off. Take-Two said as of now, with the exception of the Kerbal Space Program: Making History Expansion, no Private Division titles will release until after March 31, 2019.
Michael Worosz is heading up the label as SVP and head of independent publishing at Take-Two. He said in a statement that Take-Two has been working on the creation of Private Division for more than two years.
We see a growing number of independent studios in our industry creating high quality games based on new IP, and our focus is supporting these types of developers and projects, and ultimately bringing incredible experiences to gamers around the world,” he said.
