After months of leaks, speculations and price guessing, the cat is finally out of the bag.
Apple has finally announced its spiffy new iPhones. Not one, not two, but three of them! Why the extra third? It's the 10th anniversary year of iPhones, so why the heck not?
Inside its brand new campus, and a packed Steve Jobs Theater, Apple finally took the wraps off its iPhone lineup for 2017. Announcing the launch of the 10th anniversary iPhone X, along with iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, the Cupertino giant finally put months of rumour mill to pause.
So let's take a closer look at each of the three new iPhones Apple announced today:
Apple iPhone X
Of all the iPhones announced today, this is the one that matters most. The iPhone X (pronounced ten). Raising the bar for all previous Apple phones, going where no iPhone has gone before. This is the pinnacle of Apple's iPhone, on the device's 10th anniversary no less.
First and foremost, the device has a 5.8-inch Super Retina AMOLED display, that truly stretches from edge to edge. As predicted in previous leaks, it's got miniscule bezels and the cut out notch at the top. That notch holds Apple's True Depth camera, the magic behind a lot of its new technology. FaceID, lets you just look at your phone swipe up to unlock, even in the dark. That's important because the iPhone X doesn't have the TouchID/Home Button of previous models. On the back, the dual camera system has been redesigned as well. The dual 12MP sensors are larger and faster, with a f/1.8 sensor and a f/2.4 sensor on the telephoto lens.
There's also a new processing chip called the A11 Bionic, with a more powerful CPU, GPU, and image processor. All three have also been tuned for maximum efficiency with augmented reality, another major selling point for the new front camera. The iPhone X is sealed to be water and dust resistant, with a battery that lasts two hours longer than the iPhone 7, and the addition of wireless charging.
Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus both pack the same A11 bionic chip as the iPhone X, with all the AR capabilities it brings, and 25 percent faster than the A10 chip of old. Both have updated 12MP sensors on the cameras with f/1.8 sensors, and a f/2.4 sensor on the 8 Plus telephoto lens. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch Retina display while the 8 Plus packs a 5.4-inch screen. The devices both have wireless charging, are water and dust resistant.
