The iPhone 8 Releasing Tomorrow Is Actually The 7s, The New Flagship Will Be Called iPhone X
Not just the new iPhone, but the successors to the 7 and 7 Plus are also receiving new call signs.
Apple is all set to launch its newest flagship tomorrow night, after a string of rumours and leaks surrounding the device. Now, there¡¯s another leak confirming once and for all the nomenclature the company is going with.
iOS developer Steve Troughton-Smith has confirmed that the latest leaked firmware contains references to the ¡®iPhone X¡¯, linked to the D22 codename for a device with a bezel-less display. It¡¯s only another piece of evidence that Apple might be calling its new iPhone by that name, the other clue being that it¡¯s now officially 10 years of the iPhone, justifying the ¡®X¡¯ in the name.

In addition however, Troughton-Smith also discovered other references in the iOS 11 firmware that indicates the other smartphones being released are being named outside of the company¡¯s usual tradition. Mention of an iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus indicates that will be Apple¡¯s names for the other two new devices coming out, forgoing the series¡¯ typical S and S Plus titles expected for the iPhone 7 duo follow up.
This is in the final iOS 11 firmware, but it¡¯s still possible Apple may modify the software and change the name of the iPhone X once more before it reaches stores, though that¡¯s not quite likely. Other rumours have also indicated Apple is suffering OLED shortages, meaning the iPhone X will ship later than the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus so that does give them more time.
