OnePlus 5T With iPhone-Like Face Unlock, Better Camera Than OnePlus 5 Launched At Rs 32,500
The device will be available in two different RAM and storage versions.
OnePlus finally launched its highly anticipated flagship tonight, the OnePlus 5T, at a special event that was livestreamed online.
Coming just a few months after the launch of the OnePlus 5, the 5T updates some of its predecessor¡¯s hardware, though the look is by and large the same.
For starters, the OnePlus 5T has a 6-inch optic AMOLED display, slightly larger than the 5.5-inch on the OnePlus 5, and the resolution has been bumped up to 1080x2160. It¡¯s the first smartphone with a Quad HD display by the company.
Just as important are the new narrow bezels on the sides, and the fingerprint scanner that¡¯s been moved to the device¡¯s rear. In addition, the smartphone has lost its capacitive buttons on the bottom. The only way you can use the device now is through gestures or the soft buttons, something not everyone will be happy about. Thankfully, at least OnePlus hasn¡¯t gone whole hog; it¡¯s kept the controversial 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The biggest change however is with the rear camera on the OnePlus 5T. It¡¯s keeping its predecessor¡¯s dual camera, with a new focus on low-light photography and portrait mode. It sports a 16MP as well as a 20MP sensor on the rear, both f/1.7 with a 27 mm focus.
On the performance side, everything remains unchanged. It has the same 2.45Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and 8GB of RAM as the OnePlus 5, with an Adreno 540 GPU and 128GB of internal storage. However, there¡¯s also a more pocket-friendly version with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage
One of the big new features coming to the phone however, is something OnePlus is borrowing from Apple. Face Unlock, as it¡¯s called, lets you look at your OnePlus 5T to unlock it with a 99 percent accuracy. However, the company is quick to say it¡¯s for unlocks only, and won¡¯t work as a biometric password for your payment apps.
The OnePlus 5T will ship with Android Nougat 7.1.1, with the latest Oxygen OS on top. The device will run on a 3300mAh battery, instead of a larger size fans were hoping for, with the same Dash Charge available on the forerunner, and a Dual nano SIM slot.
The OnePlus 5T is priced at $499 or Rs 32550 for the 6GB/64GB version and $559 or Rs 36460 for the higher end 8GB/128GB version. It¡¯ll launch November 21 in North America, Europe, and India.
