Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 710 Chip: 8 Things That Will Make Phones Based On It Very Unique
It¡¯s only natural for Qualcomm¡¯s higher end processors to get all the attention. That spot is currently held by the Snapdragon 845, but it¡¯s the all new mid range Snapdragon 710 that¡¯s likely to sell the bulk of devices.
It¡¯s only natural for Qualcomm¡¯s higher end processors to get all the attention. After all, that¡¯s where the chips for the best and fastest smartphones come from.
That spot is currently held by the Snapdragon 845, but it¡¯s the all new mid range Snapdragon 710 that¡¯s likely to sell the bulk of devices
1. Faster load times
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 is just a step down from the 800 series in performance. It¡¯s an octa-core chipset, with six Kryo 360 efficiency cores clocked at 1.7GHz and a pair of performance cores at 2.2GHz. It promises 20 percent improved performance over last year¡¯s Snapdragon 660, with even your apps loading 15 percent faster.
2. Better gaming
The CPU in this Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip is paired with the Adreno 616 GPU, which promises 35 percent faster graphics rendering. This means high-quality games should have smoother animations as you play. Yes, that includes PUBG mobile.
3. More optimized battery
With that performance boost, Qualcomm also says your battery will drain upto 40 percent slower. By conservative estimates, the company insists you¡¯ll get about 9 hours of gaming or more than a day of talktime.
4. Faster charging
Aside from optimizations, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 also has Qualcomm¡¯s Quick Charge 4.0, launched a couple of years ago. It allows, in most cases, up to a 50 percent charge in only 15 minutes.
5. Enhanced wireless connectivity
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 features an integrated X15 LTE modem, which supports download speeds of up to 800Mbps. In addition, it¡¯s also got 4x4 MIMO (multiple input multiple output) antennae. Not only does this mean the 710 picks up weaker signals better than the Snapdragon 660, it also offers 30 percent faster download speeds. If that weren¡¯t enough, it also supports the new Bluetooth 5.0 standard.
6. More powerful camera
On the camera front, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 has a bunch of improvements. The chip now supports a single 32MP rear camera, or (like many devices now) a dual camera setup of up to 20MP. Slow motion and 4K capture also take 40 percent less power now, with better noise reduction and image stabilisation overall.
7. Face Unlock gets better
This new Snapdragon 710 SoC using Qualcomm¡¯s Spectra 250 Image Sensing Processor (ISP) also drastically improves depth sensing in cameras. That means the face unlock feature that so many devices are adopting now, should get accurate and faster as well, so you¡¯re not staring at your phone at arm¡¯s length for extended periods.
8. Enhanced artificial intelligence
Of particular note, Qualcomm says its tweaked the Snapdragon 710 to double its efficiency with artificial intelligence systems. This will be particularly important as the Google, Siri, and others take centre stage more often, and begin integrating with even more online services. For now, that also improves how your phone handles bokeh camera effects, face unlock, animoji, and camera post-effects.
The Snapdragon 710 is expected to hit in a number of devices in the near future, including at least two upcoming Xiaomi phones. Mostly, you¡¯re likely going to see this in devices between Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000, so hold on to your seats.
