Giant Gaming Hub To Open In Dubai To Advance $1.8 Billion Industry
The city of Dubai has embraced gaming with open arms, and now a major video gaming hub will be set up in the city to support the gaming industry that is expected to reach the $5 billion revenue mark by 2025
The gaming industry has grown tremendously over the last few years, as Covid-induced lockdowns gave people more time to explore their interests. The introduction of metaverse (AR/VR) technologies that offer an immersive gaming experience are also adding to the hype around gaming.
The city of Dubai has embraced gaming with open arms, and now a major video gaming hub will be set up in the city to support the gaming industry that is expected to reach the $5 billion revenue mark by 2025, according to state news agency WAM.
Helping the gaming industry grow
The DMCC free zone announced the launch of the DMCC Gaming Centre to support the video games industry. In just the MENA region alone, gaming generates revenue of $1.8 billion, a number expected to shoot up to $5 billion by 2025.

Recently, the city of Dubai also hosted its first esports festival - formalising its support for the gaming industry in the region. Currently, DMCC supports 50 gaming companies.

According to Arabian Business, under the DMCC Gaming Centre, all members will get access to esports community through regular events, esports tournaments and more. YaLLA Esports, a UAE-based esports organisation will support the entire ecosystem.
"Gaming is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, with nearly 3.2bn people playing and spending a combined total of $196.8bn in 2022," said Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the CEO of DMCC.
"The size and growth of the industry today is staggering compared to when video games first appeared in the 1970s."

According to DMCC, eight out of 10 Gen Zs and millennials are gamers. In addition, they claim that gamers aged between 25 and 40 spend about seven hours gaming each week.
