This is according to a list shared on ETNow Twitter handle that lists all the 54 apps that were banned earlier today, with Garena Free Fire- Illuminate at the end.
The banned apps, according to MeitY, were found to be sending sensitive user data of Indians to other nations like China.
Players of the game have been reporting the absence of the game from Google Play Store for almost a day now. However, what¡¯s surprising is that Garena¡¯s Free Fire: Max is still listed on the Google Play Store, at the time of writing this report.
Moreover, the official Twitter handle of Garena Free Fire shot out a tweet for store deals on account of Valentine¡¯s Day. The official Twitter handle hasn't released any official statements pertaining to the game¡¯s alleged ban as of now.
Is Garena Free Fire a Chinese app?
Garena Free Fire actually hails from Singapore, and not China. However, a previous report has highlighted that several apps from the banned list were found to initially be from Singapore or Hong Kong that were later sending Indian user data to Chinese servers. Perhaps, Garena was one of the many apps that was doing this.
Gamers aren¡¯t happy
After PUBG Mobile was banned, several mobile gamers in India turned to Garena Free Fire. The app saw over 70 million active user base in India alone.
