Users Can Now Add 'Notes' To Google Search Results: Here's How
Users who opt-in for Notes through Google Search Labs will see a "Notes" button under certain search results and under Discover articles in the Google app.
Google recently launched a new experiment called Notes that allows users to see and share tips alongside search results, the company announced on Tuesday. The Notes feature is being rolled out through Google's Search Labs that rolls out experimental features to users who wish to test them.
What will Notes do?
Users who opt-in for Notes through Google Search Labs will see a "Notes" button under certain search results and under Discover articles in the Google app. Clicking on the button will show the notes left by other people about that page.
According to Google, users may create their own notes to share "their expertise with the world," as Brad Kellett, Senior Director of Engineering for Google Search, said. Notes can include various elements, including text, photos, stickers, and other customisable elements. Soon, Google will add AI-generated images to notes as well.

"We¡¯ve seen in our research that people are interested in what people like them are saying about a given web page," Kellett said. "Notes are designed to work hand-in-hand with existing content on the web, adding a new layer of human insights to your search results."
Kellett explained how Notes might be useful to users. It can give tips about neighbourhoods or cities or to modify spice levels in a recipe based on other people's experiences.
"Our goal with this new Labs experiment is to provide access to helpful tips about an article or topic from both experts and everyday people," he stated. "This not only helps you narrow in on the most relevant information, but also may help you see what worked for others who have been there before."
How to enable Notes for Google Search
To enable Notes within Search on Google, follow the steps below on your Android smartphone:
- Open the Google app and tap on the beaker in the top-left corner.
- You'll now see "Notes on Search" on top. "Share your thoughts about a search result to help others and see what others are saying," it'll say.
- Tap on the toggle button to turn the Notes within Search feature on.
- When you turn it on, you'll see the option to "Try an example."
Just like that, Notes will appear when you search for things through Google.
Google claims it'll use protections and human content moderation techniques to ensure safety and quality within Notes. These will operate similarly to standard Search results, according to Google. The feature is available in the United States and India through Google Search Labs on Android and iOS.
