66% Of People Hate Phone Distraction On Dates, And 25% Are OK With Having Sex With A Robot
Over 5,000 singles talk about why messing with your smartphone on a date is rude, and about the chance to get intimate with a machine.
Most people don¡¯t like it when you¡¯re glued to your phone instead of talking to them. That¡¯s doubly so when you¡¯re on a date, not to mention just plain rude. And yeah, you¡¯d best believe there are a lot of people that feel that way.
Dating site Match.com has just conducted its eighth annual ¡°Singles in America¡± study, which questions over 5,000 singles in the US about common dating theme. Things like how much of messing with your phone is appropriate on a date.
The answer to that is, not much. Around three quarters of the people quizzed said they would be turned off if their date answered their phone without a reasonable explanation, while 66 percent said they found texting on a date a red flag. In fact, 58 percent said they wouldn¡¯t want their date to place their phone on the table, even face down. A further 41 percent said they think it¡¯s rude if a date takes their phone to the restroom or outside, because it gives the impression they¡¯re being gossipped about to the friends.
And that¡¯s not all, it turns out even the kind of smartphone you have can make an impression. Android users were 15 times more likely to judge someone for having an iPhone, and Apple fans were 21 times more likely to feel the same way about Android users. Women are apparently particularly judgemental here, being 92 percent more likely to think lowly of their date if they have an older model smartphone.
On the whole, 14 percent of singles said they were unnerved by a date having a smartphone with a cracked display, and 14 percent felt having audible clicks on your phone turned on is irritating.
And yet, it seems all these people judging others for their smartphone habits (or lack thereof) didn¡¯t have a problem when it came to having sex with technology. According to the survey, one in four singles said they¡¯d have sex with a robot if they were given the chance - but nearly half said they would consider it cheating if their partner did it behind their back.
To recap, don¡¯t fiddle with your phone on a date and, apparently... don¡¯t bang robots?
