9 PUBG Easter Eggs And Hidden Details You Didn¡¯t Know Existed

PUBG Mobile has taken India by storm, but long before we had handheld versions of the game we just had good old PUBG for PC. And in all the time it's been around, the developers have been putting some sneaky easter eggs in for our enjoyment. So here are a few you might have missed.

Tribute to a contributor

We've talked about the origin of PlayerUnknown's Battlgerounds before. How a modder named Brendan Greene started out making zombie survival mods for DayZ. Well, another gamer named DevilWalker was the first to get Greene a server for his DayZ mod, which eventually ended up kickstarting his career. That's why DevilWalker is immortalized in graffiti on the Erangal map.

What's in a name?

Speaking of Erangal, you probably already know it's based on the area around the defunt chernobyl power plant. What you may not know however, is that it's not a nonsense name. Erangal was actually based on the name of Greene's daughter, Eryn.

Dacia for days

The Dacia, one of the many cars you can drive in PUBG, is a reference to Greene's favourite show, 'Top Gear'. The series actually had a running gag about the Romanian car, thanks to how ubiquitous it is in the region.

PEW PEW

The M416 assault rifle in PUBG, just like the real weapon it's modelled after, as a fire selector switch that goes from safe, to semi-auto, to full-auto. Except, the developers decided to have a bit of fun. Instead, the markings on the switch read No Pew, Pew, and Pew Pew Pew respectively.

Remember what came before

The crossbow in PUBG is a reference to the crossbow that appeared in the film 'Battle Royale' which was the inspiration for the game. So is the sickle melee weapon.

"The greatest place on Earth"

While in Miramar, you might notice some posters on the buildings around you. These seem to be ads by a travel agency, encouraging players to book flights to "exotic Erangel," a throwback to the original PUBG map.

Hey, teacher! Leave us, kids, alone!

For a truly hidden secret, you can try to land on top of the mountain in Miramar, near Minas del Sur. It's tough to do but worth it. At the peak, surrounded by rocks, is an orange traffic cone, with a message on it that reads "I hate school". This is a reference to the 'School' location in Erangel, which is a heavy fighting zone thanks to the tightly packed buildings with lots of corridors and weapons

Plata o plomo?

Where Erangal was modelled on Chernobyl, Miramar takes inspiration from Mexico. And thanks to Netflix's Narcos, what is Mexico without Pablo Escobar? That's certain parts of map carry graffiti referring to him, one of which is his badass quote, "Plata o Plomo", meaning silver or lead.

Honk if you're having fun

They may struggle now and then with working out glitches and cracking down on cheaters, but at least the PUBG developers have a sense of humour. Pick-up trucks on the game's desert map have strange number plates reading "F2HNK". If you haven't got it yet, it's an instruction saying "press F to honk". Of course, any PUBG vet can tell you that's not the horn, but the button to launch yourself out of the moving car, likely to your death. It's almost a tradition now to pull that prank on a newbie when they're playing for the first time, and it'll likely never get old.
