A Gurugram-Based Startup Is Building An AI Warden Named JARVIS To Monitor CCTVs In UP Prisons
Artificial Intelligence can be a big help when its put to tasks that require spotting patterns or anomalies. And the applications can be insanely varied. Take how the government of Uttar Pradesh is putting it to use in their prisons.
Artificial Intelligence can be a big help when it's put to tasks that require spotting patterns or anomalies. And the applications can be insanely varied. Take this latest piece of news about how the government of Uttar Pradesh is putting it to use in their prisons.
Staqu
Apparently the UP government has partnered with a Gurugram-based startup called Staqu. UP will be using the company's AI-based video, called JARVIS, to help police the 70 prisons across the state.
JARVIS is implemented as a sort of video wall. It monitors footage from CCTV cameras across a vast network, and then flags any segment that looks to contain unlawful activity. Essentially, it'll use a combination of object recognition and computer vision to spot when inmates are fighting, dealing contraband, and more. At least, when it's captured by a camera.
Of UP's 70 prisons, Staqu says it's already integrated JARVIS with 700 cameras across a 900 km area. This lets it watch for violence, unauthorised intrusions, illegal mobile phone and weapons, and more.
"It is a proud moment for us to add another spectacular solution to our AI-powered homeland security technologies," said Atul Rai, Co-Founder and CEO of Staqu. "JARVIS is now no longer limited to the realms of science-fiction; we are making intelligent video analytics a reality for India's police force, starting with the first phase of integration in Uttar Pradesh."
"We have installed a super video wall in Lucknow that will be powered with our expertise in artificial intelligence. It will analyse live footage from 70 UP Prisons and provide actionable insights to the police forces. We look forward to conducting similar integrations for JARVIS in the near future."
Staqu says that it is also working to use JARVIS for other security applications as well. They're currently looking to integrate with local police forces in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Telangana.
