New leaks around the upcoming flagship by Apple have made their way online but that is not what the industry is focusing on as of now. The limelight is being stolen by a much more radical iPhone iteration, one that folds.
Information around the new folding iPhone has now been shared by industry insider Jon Prosser in a new video. As per the video, Apple has finalized the form factor for its new foldable iPhone. The launch, however, might hold some surprise for the market.
"[Apple] is leaning heavily in favor of a clamshell [iPhone design],¡± Prosser says in his video.
¡°My sources aren¡¯t exactly sure why, all they know is the clamshell is now having the majority of the attention placed on it behind the scenes¡ [and] is getting elevated behind the scenes in terms of a production timeline,¡± he said.
Previous reports have also hinted that the device will hold a ¡°fun factor¡± for Apple lovers. Building on this, Prosser says in his video that the clamshell design will offer the Cupertino tech giant much more scope of playing around with different colour options on the smartphone.
¡°One of the goals of this clamshell-style foldable iPhone is to offer it in multiple colors, like fun colors, similar to base model iPhones,¡± Posser says.
Once out, the new foldable phone by Apple will compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. It is easy to see how the tech major¡¯s entry into the division will propel the industry¡¯s pursuit towards the form factor.
Posser, however, hints at a later entry of the special iPhone to the market in comparison with the iPhone 13. As cited in a report by Forbes, Posser previously claimed a September 2022 launch date for the foldable iPhone.
The foldable iPhone can act as a game changer for Apple, marking its entry into the progressive smartphone segment that players like Samsung and LG are already dominating. The challenge for the company, however, will be to how to introduce the segment to the market without undermining its own iPhone 13 series flagships.
