Apple Is Offering Rs 3,900 Credit If You Replaced Your iPhone Battery Out Of Warranty Last Year

Months ago, Apple apologised to iPhone users for throttling the performance of older devices and offered discounted battery replacements for them.

Now, the company has a cashback offer for anyone that replaced their battery on their own, before the discount.

Apple is offering owners of the iPhone 6 and later models Rs 3,900 credit in India ($50 in the US) if they got their battery replaced out of warranty. The money will be provided to all those eligible in the form of an electronic funds transfer, or credit on the credit card used to pay for the replacement. The company is reaching out to eligible customers, who will be contacted one-on-one via email starting May 23.

The move is part of Apple¡¯s apology for the fiasco, when it came to light it was throttling performance on older devices in order to preserve battery life and avoid ¡°unexpected shutdowns.¡± At the time, the public raised an outcry because the throttling was not an option people could toggle off. More importantly though, Apple had been acting without the consent of its customers, or even their knowledge.

The credit is applicable to users that replaced the battery on their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone SE, before the discounted replacement option was made available. It¡¯s important to remember however, Apple is only offering credit for replacements that were carried out at an Apple authorised service centre, and not to those replacements still covered by a warranty at the time.

If you¡¯re one of these eligible customers, just look out for an email from Apple between May 23 and July 27, which will instruct you how to retrieve that credit.
