Apple Just Filed A Patent For An All Glass iPhone, And It May Take Touch Input From All Sides
Apple has filed for a patent of an iPhone made completely of glass. The idea is to showcase the iPhone as a seamless array of display with the ability to take in touch response at all sides. The display at the front curves at the edge somewhat like the one seen on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
As the world embraces the upcoming era of foldable phones, there might just be a different, and dare we say better, technology on the cards from the house of Apple. Instead of making its displays fold, new hints indicate that Apple might be working on a wraparound touch screen display for its next iPhone.
As can be figured, the display will have to work on an all-glass device. The recent US patent filing, the root of these speculations around the new iPhone, indicate exactly the same. As per US Patent No 20200057525 titled ¡®Electronic Device with Glass Enclosure¡¯, Apple has filed for a patent of an iPhone made completely of glass.
The device has technically been described as having a six-sided glass enclosure. The idea is to showcase the iPhone as a seamless array of display, with the ability to take in touch response at all sides.
There is not a single piece of glass to be bent into the desired shape here. Instead, Apple will be use multiple pieces and stitch them together to create a completely seamless experience for the user. The patent mentions:
"Described herein, however, are electronic devices with enclosures that use glass to define multiple sides of the enclosure. In such cases, the enclosure may appear visually and tactilely seamless, such that the entire enclosure may appear to be formed from a single piece of glass (even though it may be formed from multiple separate pieces attached together)."
Filed back in August last year, the patent by Apple has been published just now and the informative figure along with it suggests that information will be displayed on all the sides of the device. The display at the front curves at the edge, somewhat like the one seen on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and other such devices. The further even enables the wallpaper to take a curved form factor on the smartphone.
For now, the all-glass iPhone stands just as a patent and Apple is expected to work on it only some time later. But once it does, it will be interesting to see if the Apple is able to compete with Samsung¡¯s upcoming lineup of foldable displays with it or not.
