Apple Reportedly Looking To Move Some iPad Production From China To India

The Indian government is looking at options for bringing some of Apple¡¯s iPad production from China to the nation, revealed a CNBC report citing two sources close to the Indian government.

Apple has already started making its latest iPhone 14 series in India just weeks after its official launch -- a first in Apple¡¯s production history in India.
Apple¡¯s move to look at other markets for manufacturing its devices other than China comes after severe political unrest across the nation due to the government¡¯s strict zero-Covid policy. A series of lockdowns in many cities has been delaying Apple¡¯s shipments for iPhones and other products.
A recent Wall Street Journal article hinted that Apple was looking at Asian nations including India and Vietnam for shifting its production.
Sources however warn that a lack of skilled labour with expertise in creating complex devices such as the iPad could slow down the plans in India.
Last month, ET reported Tata group was in talks to purchase Wistron¡¯s manufacturing facility in India for around Rs 5,000 crore. Wistron is one of the three Apple product manufacturers in India, after Pegatron and Foxconn.
This came after reports in September hinted Tata Group was looking to enter a joint venture with Wistron to assemble iPhones in India.
J.P. Morgan analysts estimate that at least one out of four iPhones could be made in India by 2025.
