Bad News For Apple: More iPhone Users Are Choosing To Buy An Android As Their Next Phone
A new study by Bankmycell reveals that loyal Apple iPhone users are actually switching to Android phones. The study conducted with 38000 users from Q4 2018-Q2 2019 also reveals that iPhones brand retention is at its lowest since 2011.
Apple's iPhone is going through a rough time, either with the looks of its upcoming ugly iPhone XI or with the steadily dropping sales numbers.
Apple's battle with Google has been going on for a while now, and iPhone fans won't be smiling after reading this new study which reveals a disturbing trend: that loyal Apple iPhone users are actually switching to Android phones.
According to a study by Bankmycell, a website where users exchange their old phones for a new one, 2019 trade-ins show 15 percent less iPhone loyalty as compared to 2018 trade-ins. Majority of users are turning in their iPhones for a brand new Android phone.
The study conducted with 38,000 users from Q4 2018-Q2 2019 also reveals that iPhone's brand retention is at its lowest since 2011. Only 70.8 percent of iPhone users remained brand loyal as opposed to a whopping 91 percent in BankMyCell's study in 2018.
According to the website, as of June 2019, 18 percent of iPhone users actually had an Android smartphone now, which is the highest iPhone loyalty switch seen by Bankmycell till date.
The report further reveals that around 26% of iPhone X users switched to an Android device, giving us more insight on what most iPhone and Apple loyalists have been fearing for a while.
While this is a global report, the results aren't very different from recent iPhone sales trends across India and the world, and how people are looking to move away from Apple. In January, a report stated that Indians aren't buying iPhones because of OnePlus.
With the iPhones going as high as a lakh rupees in India, users would definitely want to hold on to the device for a while longer, and the iPhone Xs and Xs Max last year didn't tempt users enough to make a switch. The only exception being iPhone XR, which actually saw the highest conversion of Android users to iPhone last year.
Moreover, to add fuel to the fire, quite recently, Apple decided to discontinue selling its iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus & iPhone SE, as it wants to push its expensive iPhones going forward. The cheapest iPhone you can pick in the market right now is the iPhone 7 (which was launched in 2016) which will cost you around 39,000 onwards.
