Bill Gates Calls Windows PC's Ctrl-Alt-Delete Combo A Mistake, Says It Should Be Just One Key
The billionaire Microsoft co-founder admitted that the Control-Alt-Delete function used to start up Windows computers is an awkward key combination, and it would've been better to have just a single key for it instead.
For anyone who's ever used a Windows PC growing up, the key combination of Control, Alt & Delete keys has been nothing short of disastrous. And hugely frustrating!
Bill Gates himself didn't like Ctrl-Alt-Delete combo either
While locking, logging in or interrupting a crazy app on your PC, clicking the holy trinity of keys like a ninja for countless number of times has left deep scars on every user's muscle memory. If that was so essential, why wasn't there just one key to do the job?!
That's exactly what Bill Gates has apologized for, admitting that the Control-Alt-Delete key combination which has become such a crucial part of using Windows is an awkward user expectation.
The unholy trinity of keys on Windows PC keyboards
While speaking at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York City on Wednesday, the billionaire Microsoft co-founder said, "If I could make one small edit, I'd make that a single key."
This isn't the first time Bill Gates has spoken about the awkward Windows PC keyboard function. Earlier in 2013, he blamed the IBM keyboard designers for the issue. "We could have had a single button. But the guy who did the IBM keyboard design didn't want to give us our single button," Gates said at a Harvard University event at the time, according to CNN.
Well, it's good to know Bill Gates understands and shares our pain. The apology comes a bit too late, but we'll take it, while tipping our hat to him.
