Boycott China: From Chinese TV, Phone And Apps, Social Media Protests Chinese Tech
Indians are calling for a ban on all things Chinese, from physical to the digital
Just how Chinese is too Chinese for you? From our phone to our TV to components in our laptop or desktop computer -- some or all of these electronic devices are either assembled or fabricated or entirely made in China.
However, the recent Chinese conflict with the Indian army at the Galwan border, which claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers has truly enraged the nation with the slogans of #BoycottChina and #BoycottChineseProducts echoing through Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms.
Even India's Intelligence agencies has separately warned the government to block a list of 52 Chinese apps popularly used in India -- the list of 52 Chinese mobile apps includes the likes of Tik-Tok, Zoom, Xender, SHAREit, Clean-master and UC Browser, among others.
The agencies report that these apps are not secure and extract a large amount of data outside India.
No Chinese apps?
On top of that, Indians on social media are calling for a ban on all things Chinese, not just physical day to day things, but also apps and services by asking users to make the switch to alternative apps that aren¡¯t owned by a Chinese conglomerate.
Even Indian Intelligence Agencies have asked the central government to block or restrict the use of 52 Chinese apps and mobile applications linked to China. Apps that are in the crosshair for this include TikTok, Xender, ShareIt, Helo Clean-master and UC Browser, among others.
People are especially targeting TikTok, which is not surprising as many people already despise the video platform -- something that was also seen with the mass bombing of negative reviews that brought the rating of the app from 4.8 to 1.2.
However, this happiness was shortlived, as Google went ahead and removed over 8 million negative reviews which brought back the rating to a decent 4.4.
No more PUBG Mobile?
People are also urging gamers as well as streamers to not promote streaming of games like the ever-so-popular PUBG Mobile -- owned by Tencent, this game has managed to get over 400 million downloads.
People are also calling for the boycott of Chinese smartphones and brands like Xiaomi, Oppo Vivo, Realme, etc. Oppo has also gone ahead and cancelled the event of its device in India amidst this unrest.
What's surprising is that these phones are actually made by Indian citizens in factories in India, and many are also exported to other parts of the world.
No Chinese phones or products?
Some people have gone to the extent that they¡¯ve conducted protests smashing Chinese TVs and smartphones that they¡¯ve bought, in these Boycott China protests.
