Call Annie: New App Brings ChatGPT To Life With Human-Like Conversations And An Avatar
Developed by a company called Animato, users of Call Annie can talk to her about anything they want via a phone call or a video call.
What if ChatGPT could be given a personality and a face, allowing it to respond to your queries how a person would? Freaky, right? A new app does exactly that!
"Call Annie" depends on the conversational capabilities of ChatGPT to generate responses, but with a twist - in response, you don't just get text, but instead are treated to a human-like conversation with an avatar called Annie.
Call Annie - powered by ChatGPT
Developed by a company called Animato, users of Call Annie can talk to her about anything they want via a phone call or a video call. Currently, the app is only available on iOS 16 and video calls require users to have an iPhone 12 above.
The tool gained traction after a Twitter user shared a clip of Call Annie, writing the following - "Not to be too much of an AI Doomer but I just had a FaceTime call with a near real-time ChatGPT-powered AI avatar and it was surprisingly human."

Anyway, I recorded it.

As PetaPixel noted, the conversation with Annie feels like talking to a human, excluding the slight hiccups in terms of delivery and the odd pronunciation. Even though a user can expect the same responses as they would get on OpenAI's ChatGPT, Call Annie adds a more lifelike experience into the mix with its avatar.
Sometimes, the creepy nods might make you uncomfortable, enough to highlight that it's a tool in progress. Also, it would be refreshing to see less caricaturised depictions of femininity on these assistants or chatbots.
