Chennai Has India's Fastest Broadband At 33 Mbps, While Karnataka Ranks Top Among All States
While Chennai features the best average download speeds in India, it's actually Karnataka that takes the cake where states are concerned.
When it comes to the world stage, India¡¯s broadband Internet connectivity and speeds are both nothing to be impressed by.
However, it seems that there are pretty big discrepancies even within the country.
Ookla, the company behind the Speedtest bandwidth monitoring platform, has ranked Chennai as having the fastest fixed broadband speed of the 20 largest cities in India. It registered an average download speed of 32.67 Mbps, at least 57.7 percent faster than the nation¡¯s average.
The results were based on tests carried out by users on Speedtest through February 2018. Aside from Chennai, other metros like Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam also scored higher than the country¡¯s average of 20.72 Mbps.
Bengaluru ranked in second place with an average of 31.09 Mbps, Hyderabad in third with 28.93 Mbps, Vishakhapatnam in fourth with 26.59 Mbps, while Delhi ranked 5th with average speeds of 23.57 Mbps. Mumbai ranked lowest among the four big metros with an overall ranking of 8, with fixed broadband speeds averaging 17.1 Mbps.
Chennai
Patna is by far the slowest city compared to the rest of the country, with speeds averaging 62.4 percent slower than the country¡¯s average. Besides Patna, download speeds in Kanpur, Lucknow, Pune and Nagpur are significantly lower than that of their respective states.
However, Karnataka as a state had the fastest speeds in India, averaging 28.48 Mbps, with Tamil Nadu in second, and Mizoram in last place.
