Coronavirus Claims Google I/O: World's Largest Android Developers Conference Cancelled
Google has announced that it won't be holding its annual developer conference that it usually conducts in Googleplex. The event was scheduled for May 12th to 14th.
Coronavirus has taken over the world affecting over 90,000 people globally. With the fear of contracting COVID-19 companies have halted global travel, major conventions are getting cancelled. And now the next event to get axed is Google I/O.
Google has announced that it won't be holding its annual developer conference that it usually conducts in Googleplex. The event was scheduled for May 12th to 14th.
The official statement by Google said, "Due to concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19), we've decided to cancel this year's physical event at Shoreline Amphitheatre."
It further added, "Over the coming weeks, we will explore other ways to evolve Google I/O to best connect with our developer community."
Official Google Developer Twitter handle announced this stating, "It's sad that we won't be able to gather as a developer community but your health and safety is our priority."
Usually, Google unveils whatever new it is trying to bring to the world of Android at Google I/O and the event in the past has also seen the launch of new forms of devices that people across the world can look forward to.
Google I/O was known for its festival-like event that many developers truly awaited. However, for others, we can surely expect Google to make launch on a live video on social media platforms.
This is the fourth large-scale tech event that has been cancelled after the Mobile World Congress, Facebook¡¯s F8 developer¡¯s conference and the Game Developer¡¯s Conference getting postponed till the Coronavirus situation gets a little under control.
Even in India, several smartphone launches are getting cancelled -- the most recent ones to be Xiaomi and Realme¡¯s new devices -- after two confirmed cases surfaced in India, with 21 more kept under quarantine.
