Delhi-NCR is soon going to get a large fleet of pollution free source of mobility after the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing between Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd. and SmartE. As per the MoU, the two companies will be bringing in 1000 Mahindra Treo and Mahindra Treo Yaari electric three-wheelers to the region by March next year.
The collaboration is meant to offer a zero-emission last mile connectivity to commuters in the region. Mahindra had launched its Treo and Treo Yaari earlier this year, building on its electric vehicle offerings in the country.
Now, the tie-up with SmartE is meant to deploy these vehicles on the roads in large numbers. The final count is supposed to reach 10,000 by 2020 as per SmartE¡¯s plans.

SmartE is currently partnered with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and other organisations to offer shared rides to the commuters for last-mile trips. Following this, the new fleet will be dedicated to serve Delhi Metro commuters. Concurrently, SmartE will be making investments to increase its charging network to support the new Mahindra three-wheeler fleet.
Back in July, the Delhi Cabinet had also approved 1000 electric buses for the Delhi-NCR region by next year. As the air quality in the capital turns to worst, such initiatives are expected to be a huge boon to bring down the overall emissions from public transport.
