Elon Musk Has Reinstated 12,000 Banned Accounts Since Taking Over Twitter: Report
A Germany-based software developer, Travis Brown has been tracking unique Twitter IDs and screen names of banned accounts on a public Github list. So far, about 12,000 accounts have been reinstated on Twitter since October 27.
When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he promised to restore permanently suspended accounts - starting with former US president Donald Trump. Now, it appears that Musk has reinstated 12,000 banned accounts after saying that he wanted to provide "general amnesty" for all.

Bringing back banned accounts on Twitter
Starting November 8, Twitter began to seriously reinstate several hundred accounts. On just November 21 alone, 2,500 accounts were allowed back on Twitter.
Musk is just getting started. According to a report by Platformer, Musk wants to reinstate 62,000 accounts with over 10,000 followers.

Most of these accounts were banned for vaccine misinformation at the height of Covid-19 pandemic, spam accounts, profiles with copyright violations, and adult content creators.
Twitter re-verified the accounts of neo-Nazis Richard and Jason Kessler. NBC reported that this dataset shows many far-right accounts that have been allowed back on, with many of these linked to QAnon conspiracy theories. "extremists on far right and far left are simultaneously upset!," Musk wrote on Twitter.

Even though Musk has claimed that hate speech has gone down on Twitter, that might not really be case, especially given the barrage of reinstatements.
