TIME Magazine has now named the eccentric Elon Musk as its ¡®Person of the Year¡¯ 2021, for his pushing the technological barrier while also being super influential in creating trends that have changed people¡¯s lives.

Becoming the world¡¯s richest man

The year 2021 was surely going to be Musk¡¯s year as it started with him becoming the richest man in the world, pushing behind Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos, in January. Musk today has hit a net worth of $245 billion and is nearly $59 billion richer than Bezos.

Teaming up with NASA for space missions

This year, we saw Musk¡¯s SpaceX send numerous missions to the International Space Station including a few manned missions, apart from its regular cargo delivery missions. In fact, SpaceX also teamed up with NASA on the DART mission to see if they can defend Earth from being hit by an asteroid.

Sending civilians to space on SpaceX Inspiration 4 mission

Musk¡¯s SpaceX beat Bezos in another race, launching the world¡¯s first civilian mission to orbit our planet -- Inspiration 4 -- on September 15. The mission went on for two days, with the four-person crew splashing down on September 17.

Tesla touching $1 Trillion valuation

In October this year, Musk¡¯s electric car company, Tesla became the first car company to hit $1 trillion in valuation. With this major milestone, Tesla stepped into a very exclusive club that only a handful of tech companies are today a part of.

Musk, whether intentionally or not, has become one of the biggest influencers of the cryptocurrency scene.
