FreshMenu Was Hacked In 2016 & 1 Lakh User Details Leaked, But They Kept It Hidden From Us All
If you tend to order in fairly often, it¡¯s possible you¡¯ve heard of, or even tried some food from FreshMenu. If it¡¯s the latter, you¡¯re in for a world of trouble unless you take some safety precautions immediately, because they¡¯ve been hacked.
If you tend to order in fairly often, it¡¯s possibly you¡¯ve heard of, of even tried some food from FreshMenu. If it¡¯s the latter, you¡¯re in for a world of trouble unless you set about taking some safety precautions immediately. Yeah, they¡¯ve been hacked.
FreshMenu started out as a food delivery service back in 2014. With a variety of dishes that change everyday it¡¯s fairly popular. Not to mention they¡¯ve also partnered with other food aggregator apps like Zomato, Swiggy, and UberEATS.
The problem here though is that FreshMenu¡¯s data vault was hacked back in 2016, exposing the names, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses of over 1,10,000 customers. Why didn¡¯t you hear about it then? Well because the company decided it didn¡¯t want to tell you so boo hoo.
Yeah, everything was stolen off their servers, including possibly payment information, according to HaveIBeenPwned.com. But FreshMenu thought it wasn¡¯t important for you to know that because then you might avoid their services. ¡°When advised of the incident, FreshMenu acknowledged being already aware of the breach but stated they had decided not to notify impacted customers,¡± security researcher Troy Hunt, who runs HaveIBeenPwned, wrote.
The site got a hold of the leaked data now, but it seems the breach itself was way back on July 1, 2016. A few on Twitter have confirmed against the leak data that their email addresses were included. The site says it has at least 75 percent of the addresses leaked from the app.
FreshMenu has failed to comment so far, and will probably refrain from doing so until it has a better answer than, ¡°We didn¡¯t want to.¡± In the meantime, it¡¯s not very likely your data was leaked if you¡¯ve only ever ordered FreshMenu through other apps like Swiggy, though a small possibility remains. Your best bet is probably to check the leaked database for your details and change your password if necessary.
