From Prices To Specs: Here's All That's Leaked About Google's Upcoming Pixel 4a

Leaks have finally surfaced for Google¡¯s next device -- The Pixel 4a. Just like last year, Google plans to bring in a budget-friendly Pixel device with the stellar camera that is seen on its flagships for a slightly affordable price. While the Pixel 4 wasn¡¯t able to achieve the success it hoped it would, looking at the leaks Pixel 4a surely does seem promising.

Display

Pixel 4a is expected to sport a 5.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2340x1080 pixels. The display has minimal bezels with a hole punch camera to the top left, which means this phone isn¡¯t coming with the LIDAR sensors as the Pixel 4. This also means this phone could come to India. One sad thing, however, is that the display is locked at 60Hz.

Design

According to a hands-on video, courtesy of YouTuber TechnoLike, the device feels like metal but is made of a polycarbonate body, unlike the glass back that we saw on the Pixel 4. Also at the back is a fingerprint sensor. The phone is also retaining the headphone jack.

Under the hood

Under the hood, this mid-range device is rocking some mid-range specs. Leaks hint that the device could be rocking Qualcomm¡¯s Snapdragon 730, paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It surely isn¡¯t a lot, looking at budget smartphone makers offering a whole lot more at a more competitive price. Powering the device could be a disappointing 3080mAh battery.

Camera

Google Pixel phones are known for their camera and even last year¡¯s Pixel 3a, no matter how slow it was performance-wise, it very well compensated that in the camera performance. Leaks indicate that the hole punch front camera is an 8-megapixel shooter, whereas there is a single 12-megapixel camera at the back with an LED flash, housed in a square camera unit -- synonymous to Pixel 4¡¯s design language. Looking at the similar megapixel count, it won¡¯t be surprising to see the same camera as last year¡¯s Pixel 3a on the Pixel 4a.

Pricing and availability

According to leakster @evleaks, he stumbled across an image of a Pixel 4a hoarding by Google -- before the phone even officially launched. The leaks show the device is priced at $399 which is approximately Rs 30,000.

If Google were to launch Pixel 4a at this price point to India (which I strongly believe they won¡¯t, considering last year¡¯s Pixel 3a was at a similar price tag in the US but in India, it came to Rs 40,000), the phone will more likely be dead on arrival, with smartphones with much better specs and hardware being sold at a similar, price point.
