Game of Thrones is in its final season, and it's never been more popular. In fact, so many people have tuned in to watch the show it's officially broken world records.
The Season 8 premiere was apparently the most in demand of any show ever in history.
Audience demand measurement firm Parrot Analytics tied up with Guinness World Records to measure just how popular the first episode of Game of Thrones' Season 8 was. It turns out that global demand for the premiere was more than any other TV show, for any other season, across every available platform and country they measure.
That's right, Game Of Thrones S8E1 just officially became the most popular show premiere in the world and entered the Guinness World Record books.
"Game of Thrones amassed a per capita global audience demand of 25.46 on 14th of April 2019, its Season 8 premiere day. Compared to its per capita global demand of 24.74 on the day of its Season 7 premiere, the latest and final season has premiered 2.9 percent higher globally," Samuel Stadler, VP of marketing at Parrot Analytics, said in a press statement. "Premiere day demand has been particularly strong in the United States, United Kingdom, and France."
HBO has confirmed that 17.4 million people streamed the first episode of this season of GoT, across all the streaming apps it licensed to.
"Game of Thrones has broken records since it first aired - for its viewership figures, Emmy wins, and even its status as the most pirated TV show!" Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief at Guinness World Records said. "It looks like it's going to continue breaking records right up to the final, undoubtedly devastating episode."
The important thing to remember is that this doesn't even include huge unofficial numbers, that of people illegally downloading and streaming the episode on premiere day. Taking those into account isn't nearly as accurate, but it pushes those numbers to at least 55 million on day 1 of this season.
