iPhone 2021 Could Have No Ports, As Apple May Finally Do Away With Charging Port
We all know how ¡®courageous¡¯ Apple has been in the past (especially for eliminating the headphone jack and making it a trend that followed Android flagships too), and now it looks like the next on the list is the elimination of the Lightning connector.
We all know how ¡®courageous¡¯ Apple has been in the past (especially for eliminating the headphone jack and making it a trend that followed Android flagships too), and now it looks like the next on the list is the elimination of the Lightning connector.
Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently revealed a new research note that states that the 2021 iPhone could kill the Lightning connector. However, in case you thought they¡¯re going to be switching it with the universal USB Type-C, you¡¯re going to be thoroughly disappointed as the report hints that the device could get completely wireless.
Apple¡¯s (Reported first by 9to5Mac) current phones also support wireless charging. In fact, We¡¯ve been seeing wireless charging on iPhones since 2017 -- with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X. However, eliminating the Lightning connector, and adopting wireless charging-only methods would make the device completely portless.
Apple had first introduced the Lightning connector in the year 2013 with the iPhone 5 -- and it was revolutionary at that time. Not only was the port faster and more discreet than the 30-pin dock connector it was using since the first iPhone, but the reversible nature made Android users envy with rage (and eventually releasing USB Type-C sometime in 2014).
What¡¯s more intriguing is the fact that what does Apple have in plan for sharing data from a computer? People on PCs don¡¯t have access to AirDrop. Does this mean the phone will come with a new wireless data-sharing dock? Or will it force iPhone users to buy a Mac?
While these are just speculations and not written in stone -- Ming-Chi Kuo has had an accurate track record with the previous leaks shared by him.
