Google Android Auto App Will Now Tell You If Your USB Cable Has Gone Bad
Officially called the "USB Startup Diagnostics," the tool essentially checks whether the cable is connecting while also checking the cable's quality
Do you hate the horrors of not knowing whether your USB cable is nearing its demise? Google's new update for Android Auto has reportedly added a diagnostic feature that assesses your USB cable or port to see if it is working as expected.
Former XDA Developers editor-in-chief Mishaal Rahman shared the tool on his Twitter. Officially called the "USB Startup Diagnostics," the tool essentially checks whether the cable is connecting while also checking the cable's quality.
According to Rahman, the tool is available in Android Auto 7.5.121104. If you want to use the feature, make sure the update is installed. To find it, you need to head over to Android Auto's settings >> Connection help >> USB startup diagnostics.

It often takes time for such features to be available to all. So in case you aren't able to see the cable diagnostics tool yet, chances are it will become available sometime in the near future.
The tool checks if Android is able to send data through USB, which might not be possible if the cable is connected to the wrong port in the car, the cable is incompatible/damaged, or the phone's USB port is damaged.

Finding the right USB cable for your device can be quite the headache especially now that companies no longer take pride in shipping chargers and cables in the box. As The Verge put it, this tool can at least help you figure out if you've been using the right USB cable for your connectivity needs or whether you need to buy another one.
