Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that the AI bot service will be initially rolled out to "trusted testers" before becoming available to the public in the coming weeks.
Google unveiled an experimental artificial intelligence service called Bard on February 6, as the tech giant hopes to catch up with the popularity gained by ChatGPT, an AI chatbot backed by Microsoft.
In a blog post, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that the AI bot service will be initially rolled out to "trusted testers" before becoming available to the public in the coming weeks.

Bard to rival ChatGPT
As reported earlier, Bard will work as a "companion" to its already popular Google Search service. Bard will be function similarly to ChatGPT, providing detailed answers to user prompts like "plan a friend¡¯s baby shower", "compare two Oscar-nominated movies," or "get lunch ideas based on what's in your fridge".
Currently, ChatGPT's knowledge pool is limited to internet data until 2021, and it cannot account for anything that has happened afterwards. Bard could have an edge in terms of answering questions about recent events. Pichai wrote in the blog post that Bard "draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses."

"Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from NASA¡¯s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now," he said.
Bard is powered by LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) that was developed and released by Google in 2021. In the beginning, Google will release Bard on a "lightweight" version of LaMDA that would require less computing power. Later on, the company will scare the bot to more users.
