Google's Latest Video Takes A Dig At Apple's iMessage For Not Adopting RCS

For quite some time now, Google has been urging Apple to adopt Rich Communication Services (RCS). Have you noticed the green bubbles that show up on your iPhone when you receive a text from someone using an Android phone? That can be quickly eliminated if Apple adopts RCS.

Last year, Google launched a website aimed at making sure that Apple "gets the message" and adopts RCS, but the iPhone-maker seems to have no such plans.

Google shades Apple, again!

Now, Google has released another video that compares Apple's messaging standards to those from pager days. Yes, those ancient devices that pre-date even mobile phones. In the video, Google shows a made up device called iPager. Google says that this device "uses outdated messaging tech, like Apple uses when texting with Android."

At the same time, Google calls out Apple for lack of innovation, alleging that Apple is causing "modern technology nightmares."

"It's time for SMS to exit the chat," the ad states. At the same time, Google pins the blame of zero encryption, broken group chats between Apple and Android, pixelated videos, and green bubbles on iPhone not supporting RCS.

In countries like the US where many people primarily use iMessage instead of services like WhatsApp to communicate, there is no singular experience in place when interacting with Android users.

To make cross-platform messaging easier, Google has been urging Apple to adopt RCS for quite some time now. The European Union's Digital Markets Act could force Apple to adopt RCS. The law will designate certain platforms as "gatekeepers," forcing them to open up to rival apps.

Apple is arguing against including iMessage in this gatekeeper list, saying that the platform isn't popular enough in the EU to be considered.
