The Xbox exclusive game is rumoured to be the most expensive project to ever be undertaken in the history of the video game industry. Microsoft and 343 Industries have reportedly set a budget of more than $500 million for the game, according to German website Xbox Dynasty.
This makes it the most expensive video game ever made, and that's not even counting how much will eventually be spent on marketing.
Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 by Rockstar Games, two of the developer's biggest titles, had budgets well below this. Even other expensive shooter games like Destiny 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, did not exceed $300 million budgets.
Unfortunately, there's no proof to back up the publication's claim, nor does it have a track record to consider it reliable. So obviously, take this news with skepticism. However, it does make sense.
Halo Infinite is the sixth entry in a long-running series, and Microsoft's most popular by far. Through its run, it's appeared on the Xbox, PC, and even mobile phones. It;s also being built using the new Slipspace Engine, which was designed in-house specifically for the Halo series.
We don't know much else about the game, but we're expecting to get more information at E3 2019 in June. Perhaps it'll even be the anchor for a new line of next-generation Xbox consoles.
One can only hope it lives up to that budget though, and the hype. Don't let us down Master Chief.
