Way back in 2017, Niantic announced it was working on another augmented reality game similar to Pok¨¦mon GO, except it would be set in the world of Harry Potter. They've been working on it with Warner Bros. the studio that owns the movie rights, and they're finally ready to launch.

The two have posted an announcement on the official website for the game, revealing a few scant details and preview. The game is called 'Harry Potter: Wizards Unite', and it will feature a few recurring mechanics from its creature-infused predecessor, as well as plenty of new ones. More importantly though, it's set to release on both Android and iOS later this year.
The game is already listed on the Google Play Store here with a "Coming Soon" tag. If you can't contain your excitement, you can click the link to pre-register, and you'll be notified when the game becomes available.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, like Pok¨¦mon GO, will have you walking around in the real world with your eyes glued to your phone like some kind of zombie. So obviously, please look out for traffic. Aside from that though, real world locations will translate to magical spots within the game. You're a member of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, which means your job is to explore the world and locate "Foundables". These could either be magical artifacts, or important characters from the Potterverse.

Importantly, there's a bigger focus on the story this time around. Based on the demo Niantic opened, it's more like a traditional RPG with voice acting, class systems, skill trees you upgrade, and potion brewing.
The game was originally supposed to launch in 2018, but was delayed by development. There's no word on an exact release date yet, so you're just going to have to sit on your hands and wait.
