Education Policy 2020: Technology Will Play Big Role In India's Education
National Education Policy 2020 -- a ground-breaking major revamp of the education system in India
If this lockdown has shown us one thing, it¡¯s that technology is there for us to save the day. Whether it¡¯s enabling a streamlined work-from-home routine, without even needing to visit the office once or even safely studying in the comforts of the home, away from the scares of novel coronavirus and COVID-19.
Whether it is the internet, the productivity apps that we all use today for work or video conferencing apps that are keeping us connected, technology is taking this world forward.
The Union Cabinet recently approved India's National Education Policy 2020 -- a ground-breaking major revamp of the education system in India, bringing a new learning style to promote actual learning as opposed to the race of simply rote learning and scoring the highest marks.
India finally has a new education policy after 34 long years, and laying down the marker in this effort is the renaming of the Human Resource Development Ministry to the new Ministry of Education in India.
And one of the points of focus emphasised a lot in India's National Education Policy 2020 reforms is the inclusion of technology.
Indian kids will learn to code in school
With numerous new technical policies and changes to existing education policies, the National Education Policy 2020 reform announced that Indian school children from standard VI onwards will be taught coding as a part of the Indian school curriculum.
This will help school kids develop an early aptitude for app development and programming, if they like it, which could encourage them to diversify in the field of developing innovative products and services for India and the world.
National Educational Technology Forum
The Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal has announced the setting up of an autonomous body dubbed the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF).
This will be formed to provide a platform for the free exchange of ideas, tips and recommendations on the use of technology for enhancing the learning experience, assessment, planning, as well as administration.
Technology will play big role in educating students
Educational Policy 2020 highlights indicate appropriate integration of technology into all levels of Indian school education with the idea to better classroom processes and help the professional development of the educator.
This will also include better means of education for disadvantaged groups, including specially-abled kids. Technology will also be used to streamline educational planning, administration, and management in Indian schools and colleges going forward.
Along with the inclusion of technology, the new policy has scrapped the 10+2 structure of school curriculum, replacing it with a 5+3+3+4. Basically now it¡¯ll take four years for an individual to graduate.
Additionally, Master¡¯s degree will only have a one-year curriculum as opposed to a two-year program. The two-year program will remain in place for previously passed out students who¡¯ve completed the conventional 10+2+3 structure.
