Indian Team Of Six Students Win International Astronomy & Astrophysics Competition
The aforementioned awardees were actually among the final 1,300 participants.
Six engineering students from India have made the nation proud by winning multiple awards from the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition.
The six awardees of this year include Gopalchetty Brahma and Vinay Kumar Reddy Andluri who were awarded the Gold Honour awards each in the youth category.

Next on the list, Akash Sharma, M.S. Ragul bagged the Silver Honour under the similar youth category.

Under the junior category, Sathwick Bikumallan won another Gold Honour and Bhanu Kapeendra Majety won the Bronze Honour.

All the award recipients are Aerospace Engineering students from the Lovely Professional University.
To the uninitiated, IAAC is regarded as one of the largest astronomy competitions in the world with 4,700 students competing from nations including the US, UK, Russia, Canada, Germany, China, France, Italy, Spain, South Korea and New Zealand.

The aforementioned awardees were actually among the final 1,300 participants. The competition included three rounds -- the qualifying round, the pre-final round and the final round. These rounds tested a participant¡¯s in-depth knowledge of astronomy and astrophysics with a strict time limit of one minute for each question with a separate question timer for every question.
The whole competition involves seal-tight invigilation using online proctoring and web-based tracking, mouse pointer tracking, webcam tracking among other tech-savvy means.

Gopalchetty Brahma, one of the awardees and the final year student of Aerospace Engineering at LPU, had also won last year¡¯s IAAC too. However at the time he received the ¡®Silver Honour¡¯.
On winning the ¡®Gold Honour¡¯ this year he said, ¡°I am thrilled to bag Gold honor this year. Having secured ¡®Silver Honour¡¯ last year pushed me harder to aim for the Gold this time. It also helped me tap my weak areas and improve on them. I am thankful to my mentor Dr. Amit Kumar Thakur who encouraged me to never give up and always motivated me to keep my eyes on the ¡®Gold¡¯.
