Instagram Introduces 'Take A Break' Feature To Limit Endless Scrolling On App
The "Take A Break" feature by Instagram builds on capabilities of its "Daily Limit" feature that helps Instagram users manage their time more effectively
Instagram has introduced a new feature to help users log off after they've spent a long time on the app. Meta-owned Instagram has rolled out the feature in multiple countries including India.
"Take A Break" will essentially alert users to stop scrolling and take a break from the app. Although we appreciate the sentiment, Instagram has enough tools at hand to make the geography of its apps less addictive, but that's not something we have come to expect from Meta (formerly Facebook). Doom scrolling as a concern has not been addressed by social media app - be it Meta or Twitter.
Is Take A Break available now?
If you are on an iOS device using Instagram, you may have already received a notification to try out the feature. Currently, the feature is only available on iOS but Android devices will most likely get the feature in the coming weeks.

The feature builds on capabilities of its "Daily Limit" feature that helps Instagram users manage their time more effectively. Meta's Public Policy Manager for India, Natasha Jog was quoted by Indian Express as saying that "the wellbeing of young people is important" to them.
Instagram and its parent company Meta have been at the centre of a whirlpool that focuses on how social media affects young kids negatively. Internal leaks from the company showed that they were well aware of its impact on self-image and mental health of teenagers (especially girls).

In India, Instagram is promoting the feature through a campaign called "Break Zaroori Hai" in partnership with "We The Young." The feature can be turned on from settings and later switched off if it doesn't help your cause.
