This is what iFixit discovered during its most recent iPhone 13 teardown. While people are loving the iPhone 13 and especially 13 Pros for the butter smooth 120Hz display, these displays would feel more like a curse if you¡¯d break one.
Apple hasn¡¯t had the best reputation when it comes to making easily repairable smartphones. However, this year it seems like this has been taken to the next level. When iFixit tried swapping the original screen with another one, the FaceID system stopped working entirely.
Using different displays the result remained the same, which meant the hardware on the iPhone 13 was serial locked. This basically means only Apple can control the repair, and buyers will be forced to pay the hefty repair charges or let go of the device entirely.
iFixit later spoke to a licensed repair technician who revealed that they were told by Apple that the issue was in fact a bug and it was expected to be fixed in a future update.
