His contribution to combatting climate change is just 7.7-percent of his $130 billion fortune. This huge philanthropic move comes months after Amazon employees have voiced their opinion for adopting eco-friendly alternatives in the workplace.
World¡¯s richest man Jeff Bezos in an Instagram post has revealed that he wants to help save our planet and combat climate change. And to do that, he will pledge $10 billion dollars (approximately Rs 71,000 crores).
He will do this with his new philanthropic project dubbed 'Bezos Earth Fund.' He said in the Instagram post "Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet. I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change."
Bezos revealed that the Bezos Earth Fund will support scientists, activists and NGOs, with the first grants scheduled for sometime this summer. He concluded stating, "Earth is the one thing we all have in common ¡ª let¡¯s protect it, together.???"
His contribution to combatting climate change is just 7.7-percent of his $130 billion fortune. This huge philanthropic move comes months after Amazon employees have voiced their opinion for adopting eco-friendly alternatives in the workplace.
They even signed a letter last year asking Bezos what he plans to do to combat climate change and adopt environment-friendly solutions. Many even walked out of the company in September last year.
With the way Amazon¡¯s business is being carried out, the last thing you'd associate with the brand is being eco-friendly. With the amount of waste and pollution it generates delivering goods with one-day-delivery across the world, it's quite the opposite of being eco-friendly. However, Amazon CEO has been working to change that.
Bezos has been making quite a few changes in Amazon's day to day functioning, bringing environment-friendly solutions -- like the use of biodegradable packaging as opposed to plastic ones, use of eco-friendly packaging for smaller commodities as opposed to putting them in large boxes.
During his visit to India recently, he revealed that electric rickshaws will help in delivering goods across the country. Globally, Amazon is also in talks with electric carmaker Rivian to get 100,000 electric vans for delivery.
