Manchester United Football Club Hit By Cyber Attack, No Data Loss Recorded
Manchester United also confirmed that the website and app were not affected by the cyber attack and the club is also not aware of any breach of personal data of their fans and customers.
A day before its match against West Bromwich Albion, English football club Manchester United said that it was investigating a cyber attack on its systems. The club confirmed that no known breach of personal data has been identified with the attack so far.
A new report by Reuters highlights the cyber attack on the renowned football club. As per the report, Manchester United said that it was now working to ¡°minimize the ongoing IT disruption¡± caused by the attack.
The club also confirmed that its media channels, including its website as well as the mobile app, remained unaffected. Manchester United also said that it was not aware of any personal data breach associated with its fans or customers.
"Manchester United can confirm that the club has experienced a cyber attack on our systems. The club has taken swift action to contain the attack and is currently working with expert advisers to investigate the incident and minimise the ongoing IT disruption," United said in an official statement.
Cyber defenses helped in timely intervention
The cyber defenses employed by the Premier League club were able to identify the attack and shut down the affected systems before any damage could be delivered by the attack. The club thus managed to protect the data from any breach.
"Although this is a sophisticated operation by organised cybercriminals, the club has extensive protocols and procedures in place for such an event and had rehearsed for this risk. Our cyber defences identified the attack and shut down affected systems to contain the damage and protect data," it added.
¡°All critical systems required for matches to take place at Old Trafford remain secure and operational and tomorrow¡¯s game against West Bromwich Albion will go ahead,¡± the club said.
