Twitter has commenced the process of laying off its employees in the Indian division of the social media company as part of the global.
¡°Layoff has started. Some of my colleagues have received email notifications regarding this.¡± said the Twitter employee in a conversation with PTI.
According to the sources in a conversation with IANS, Twitter India's most of nearly 200 employees saw that they had lost access to their accounts, official emails as well as Slack and group chats.
They stated that they're waiting for the official email with the subject line, ¡®if your employment is impacted, you will receive a notification with the next steps via your personal email¡¯. They still don¡¯t have any clue about severance pay and other crucial details.
Sources in a conversation with NDTV have revealed that Twitter employees in the sales, engineering and partnership divisions were affected, whereas the entire marketing and communications department had been completely sacked. Sources also highlighted that some individuals from the sales and engineering departments have been retained.
Some employees who are still with Twitter India are surrounded by the constant fear of being laid off in the following round, which, they feel, isn't too far away, looking at the current situation.
Twitter India hasn¡¯t made any official statement surrounding the mass layoffs in India as of now.
Musk has stated that he aims to slash nearly half of its 7,600-strong workforce. Twitter offices across the world have been shut down temporarily with access on their IDs suspended until further notice.
A class action lawsuit has also been filed against Twitter in a federal San Francisco court for conducting a mass layoff without adequate notice, and non-compliance under the WARN Act.
