Drone Melted Seconds After Capturing Amazing 'Mouth Of Iceland Volcano' Video
A gutsy photographer tried to the capture an up close and personal view of the Iceland volcano that erupted last month
Last month, the Reykjanes volcano in Iceland erupted and some gutsy photographers were able to capture the lava-clad region in all its glory, in amazing detail that too.
We also found a drone capturing the tip of the volcano, meandering through its neck all the way to the top and leaving unscathed. However, not everyone was so lucky.

One drone photographer, by the name of Gar?ar O?lafs, decided to get a little more adventurous and tried to show us a little more of the volcano, and that resulted in his drone from getting melted like a block of cheese in a grill.
O?lafs, who apparently stayed just 15 minutes away from the volcano, revealed in an interview with PetaPixel that he was capturing the eruption via photos and videos using his DJI drone.
However, he wanted to take a peek straight down into the mouth of the lava. As he approached the mouth of the volcano, he lowered the drone until all he could see was the boiling hot orange liquid and when he looked up from his screen into the sky, his drone was no longer in vision. His drone had entered the lava crater.

Did the volcano drone survive?
Surprisingly, the drone was still functioning and responding, as was visible via the screen on his drone controller. However, when he summoned the drone back to his location, he saw that the drone didn¡¯t come out unscathed.
In images shared with PetaPixel, the drone appears to have melted from the bottom, damaging various sensors due to extreme heat.
O?lafs says that even though the drone still flies, it does so with a series of errors.
The camera on the drone has also stopped working. He even admits that had he decided to go even closer to the lava, the drone might not have made it out. O?lafs however doesn¡¯t regret damaging the drone as according to him the shot was worth it.
