First things first, OnePlus is expected to launch two new smartphones on its upcoming launch, which, as per tipsters, is scheduled for April 15. While everything has been planned by the company since the last many months, there is one big deviation from the usual OnePlus launches that the company could not have seen coming - the Coronavirus outbreak, citing which, it will now launch these devices behind closed doors and live stream the event.
As for the devices, rumours and leaks for both the upcoming OnePlus smartphones have been gaining steam since months and here is what we know about them so far:
OnePlus 8
As an upgrade to the OnePlus 7T, the OnePlus 8 will come with a similar 1080p, 90Hz display that might be bumped to 120Hz citing the company¡¯s recent teaser of the same. A noticeable difference would be the curved edge on the display and a punch-hole selfie shooter instead of the notch as seen on the OnePlus 7T.
The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset. This is expected to be coupled with an 8GB RAM and a 256GB storage. The device will also get a larger battery - 4000 mAh, with OnePlus¡¯ own Warp Charging. As confirmed by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, the OnePlus 8 will also support 5G connectivity.
As for the cameras on the smartphone, OnePlus 8 might see an improved 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor coupled to an ultra-wide camera and a 2x optical zoom as seen on the OnePlus 7T. Even the selfie camera setup of the device is anticipated to be the same as on the OnePlus 7T.
Expect the OnePlus 8 to cost around Rs 40,000 with its launch in the Indian market.
OnePlus 8 Pro
Likely to compete with the aces of the smartphone world, including the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and the iPhone 11 series, the OnePlus 8 Pro will come with all the bells and whistles possible with the current smartphone technology.
This would include a 120Hz Quad HD+ AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate that will be curved on the edges and will have a punch-hole for the selfie camera.
The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset and to mark its distinction from the OnePlus 8, might come with a 12GB RAM and 512GB storage for the top-end variant. Powering the device will be a 4500 mAh battery with top-of-the-line fast charging support as well as wireless charging capability.
